EDUCO in Guatemala

Illiteracy, malnutrition and poverty affect nearly 90% of the indigenous population of Guatemala, who live primarily in the rural areas. In these areas, many children do not attend school or drop out either to help their parents in farming tasks or because their families migrate in search of a better life. The quality of the education system is poor, characterized by precarious installations, a lack of resources and insufficient teacher training. Moreover, the lack of access to health services leads to high mortality and chronic malnutrition rates among the child population.
