On July 9, 2011, South Sudan became an independent nation after decades of civil war against Sudan. After independence, the world’s newest nation dreamed of being a peaceful country; however, in December 2013 and July 2016 conflict erupted, which has resulted in most South Sudanese facing life-threatening challenges. By the end of 2017, nearly 7 million people were in immediate need, and the humanitarian crisis has continued, due to widespread violence, economic decline and high food insecurity.
Since 2012, ChildFund Korea has been supporting vulnerable children and their families in two states, Central Equatoria and Eastern Equatoria. Programs focus mainly on education; water and sanitation; livelihoods; child protection; and emergency response.
ChildFund Korea has been working with local partners to improve local ownership, sustainability, and mutual exchange of resources and ideas. In particular, we have collaborated with partners to implement integrated community development and emergency response projects, based on a regional context analysis.
