ChildFund Deutschland in Togo

Togo is one of the poorest countries in the world. This has far-reaching consequences for the children of the West African state: limited educational opportunities, low life expectancy, lack of future prospects. Through child sponsorship ChildFund Deutschland supports children in need - and with long-term commitment makes permanent changes possible.

ChildFund Deutschland has been supporting family projects in Togo since 1992. At present, about 600 families in 26 municipalities are cared for in the poorest regions of the country. The development projects have a duration of 12 to 15 years. Sustainable improvements can only be achieved with long-term support.

Every child needs an intact environment for their development. This is why ChildFund sponsorship contributions always benefit the entire project community. The principle of "help for self-help" is very important: All families are involved in the actual project work as well as in necessary decision-making processes. This gives them the opportunity to shape their future actively and self-determinedly.

ChildFund Deutschland is implementing sponsored projects for family aid and village development in Togo. This work has the following components:

  • Enrollment of children and literacy of adults
  • Vocational training
  • Comprehensive health care and prevention
  • Improve the nutritional situation
  • Hygiene advice and supply of clean drinking water
  • Construction of sanitary installations
  • Improve family income
